The work Makutu by Barbara Hepworth was sold in the British Art: The Jubilee Auction auction at Sothebys in London in June last year. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,668,500.00 (€ 1,938,322.38), 67% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Barbara Hepworth have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Family of Man: Ancestor II in November this year with an auction result of USD 11,565,000.00 (€ 10,602,310.23).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 67 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Makutu von Barbara Hepworth wurde im Juni letzten Jahres in der Auktion British Art: The Jubilee Auction bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.668.500,00 (€ 1.938.322,38) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Barbara Hepworth auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Family of Man: Ancestor II im November diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.565.000,00 (€ 10.602.310,23).
