Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Untitled (double-exposed portrait) by Dora Maar was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April 2017, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 100,000.00 (€ 91,785.22). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Dora Maar - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait De Picasso, which sold at auction in December 2012 for EUR 360,750.00.
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Untitled (double-exposed portrait) von Dora Maar im April 2017 bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 30.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 100.000,00 (€ 91.785,22) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Dora Maar mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait De Picasso beobachtet, die im Dezember 2012 für EUR 360.750,00 versteigert wurde.
