Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price

When the work The new munition workers busily engaged in turning out shell for the British Army by Fortunino Matania was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2014, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 4,000.00 (€ 5,107.42). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Fortunino Matania - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Complete Set of Illustrations For The Tinker'S Wig, which sold at auction in June 2005 for GBP 11,760.00 (€ 17,429.06).
