signé et dédicacé 'C'est lui, à James avec l'amitié d'Henri' à l'encre (montage, recto); signé et annoté par James Lord 'When Henri gave this photo, he said that it was a very early print and consequently more what he wanted in relation to Alberto than later photos. I would judge it to have been taken shortly before the war, c.1938 (see Henri's little book: Albert Giacometti photographié par Henri Cartier-Bresson plate No.14' à l'encre (montage, verso)

Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2017 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait d' Alberto Giacometti, vers 1946 by Henri Cartier-Bresson for EUR 37,500.00. This price was achieved in the auction Paris Avant-Garde at Christies in Paris and was even below the estimate range of EUR 40,000.00 – 60,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Henri Cartier-Bresson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work On the Banks of the Marne, France in April 2017 with an auction result of USD 212,500.00 (€ 195,043.60).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Oktober 2017 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Portrait d' Alberto Giacometti, vers 1946 von Henri Cartier-Bresson für EUR 37.500,00 erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Paris Avant-Garde bei Christies in Paris erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von EUR 40.000,00 – 60.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Henri Cartier-Bresson auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit On the Banks of the Marne, France im April 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 212.500,00 (€ 195.043,60).
