In May 2014 Sothebys in London held the auction A Green and Pleasant Land: Two Centuries of British Landscape Painting, which included the work Going Home by James Smetham. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,687.10), 50% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Smetham achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Mandolin in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 476,750.00 (€ 536,512.29).

Im Mai 2014 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion A Green and Pleasant Land: Two Centuries of British Landscape Painting durch, in der auch die Arbeit Going Home von James Smetham zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 3.000,00 (€ 3.687,10) und damit 50% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Smetham erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Mandolin im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 476.750,00 (€ 536.512,29).
