Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2010 Christies in London held the auction The Nicolette Wernick Collection British Watercolours and Paintings (1800-1950), which included the work A wayfarer resting by a lake by James Smetham. The price achieved of GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,776.44) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Smetham achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Mandolin in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 476,750.00 (€ 536,512.29).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juni 2010 führte Christies in London die Auktion The Nicolette Wernick Collection British Watercolours and Paintings (1800-1950) durch, in der auch die Arbeit A wayfarer resting by a lake von James Smetham zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 4.750,00 (€ 5.776,44) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Smetham erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Mandolin im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 476.750,00 (€ 536.512,29).
