This artwork by James Smetham achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2016. In the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art auction, the work The Chase sold for GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,676.65) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Smetham achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Mandolin in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 476,750.00 (€ 536,512.29).
