Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work The Western Wall by Jehudo Epstein was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 2,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 7,500.00 (€ 6,806.43). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jehudo Epstein; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dying Job sold at auction in January 2008 with the realized price of USD 15,000.00 (€ 10,107.14).

Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert

Als die Arbeit The Western Wall von Jehudo Epstein im November 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 2.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 7.500,00 (€ 6.806,43) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Jehudo Epstein; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Dying Job im Januar 2008 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 15.000,00 (€ 10.107,14).
