Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Singleton Copley could be acquired at Christies in London in June 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British Pictures (1500-1850) auction, the work Portrait of Henry Belasyse, 2nd Earl Fauconberg (1743-1802), half-length, in uniform, in a landscape changed hands for GBP 23,900.00 (€ 35,570.36) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 25,000.00 – 40,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Singleton Copley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James Tilley (1707-1765) in January 2006 with an auction result of USD 374,400.00 (€ 307,945.39).
