Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2019 Christies in New York held the auction Impressionist and Modern Art Works on Paper Sale, which included the work Amstel, Café ‘T Vissertje Ii by Piet Mondrian. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 212,500.00 (€ 190,600.05) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Piet Mondrian achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black, 1929 in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 50,565,000.00 (€ 45,993,269.06).
