This artwork by Roy De Maistre achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Melbourne in November 2008. In the Important Australian Art auction, the work Australian Francis Bacon'S Studio sold for AUD 180,000.00 (€ 92,821.81) - well above the upper estimate of AUD 80,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Roy De Maistre; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Australian New Atlantis sold at auction in November 2009 with the realized price of AUD 222,000.00 (€ 135,370.55).
