In July last year Sothebys in London held the auction Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints, which included the work The actor Bando Hikosaburo III in the role of Sagisaka Sanai by Toshusai Sharaku. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 151,200.00 (€ 180,559.65), 68% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Toshusai Sharaku - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait en buste (okubi-e) de l'acteur Morita Kan'ya VIII dans le rôle de Uguisu no Jirôsaku, le porteur de palanquin, sur fond micacé gris, dans la pièce Katakiuchi Noriaibanashi, une sélection de contes de revanche, donnée le 5e mois de l'an, which sold at auction in May 2018 for EUR 616,600.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 68 % übertroffen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit The actor Bando Hikosaburo III in the role of Sagisaka Sanai von Toshusai Sharaku zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 151.200,00 (€ 180.559,65) und damit 68% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Toshusai Sharaku mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait en buste (okubi-e) de l'acteur Morita Kan'ya VIII dans le rôle de Uguisu no Jirôsaku, le porteur de palanquin, sur fond micacé gris, dans la pièce Katakiuchi Noriaibanashi, une sélection de contes de revanche, donnée le 5e mois de l'an beobachtet, die im Mai 2018 für EUR 616.600,00 versteigert wurde.
