Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'After The Opera...At Sammy'S Night Club On The Bowery', 1940 by Weegee was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,800.00 (€ 2,657.36). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Weegee achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Weegee Portfolio in October 2019 with an auction result of USD 62,500.00 (€ 56,028.69).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit 'After The Opera...At Sammy'S Night Club On The Bowery', 1940 von Weegee im Mai 2005 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.800,00 (€ 2.657,36) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Weegee erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Weegee Portfolio im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 62.500,00 (€ 56.028,69).
