Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Oxford, Mississippi (from The Democratic Forest) by William Eggleston was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in July 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,780.00 (€ 3,186.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Eggleston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled, 1970 in May this year with an auction result of USD 1,008,000.00 (€ 946,123.52).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Oxford, Mississippi (from The Democratic Forest) von William Eggleston im Juli 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 3.780,00 (€ 3.186,11) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Eggleston erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled, 1970 im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.008.000,00 (€ 946.123,52).
