With Gute Aussichten - Junge deutsche Fotografie 2020/2021 (Good Prospects - Young German Photography 2020/2021), the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg will be presenting the winners of the young talent award for photography graduates between 11 February and 1 May 2022. Now in its 17th edition, this year's prize exhibition imagines itself under the motto of the beautiful, the shabby or the wavering. With their themes, models and motifs, the eight prize winners dismantle reality into different strands and let the works pass through the three stages. These three stages are taken from Brigitte Kronauer's novel of the same name, in which the terms are considered stages of development for the characters depicted.

The exhibits in the exhibition add up to 130 photographs, ten videos, seven sound installations, five sculptural objects, four smartphones with facial recognition software, three books, two sound files with image-to-text AIs, a 16 mm film, a notebook, a plastic bag with photographic fragments and a web-based QR code application. The authors and at the same time lucky winners of the Young Talent Award are currently Sophie Allerding, Leon Billerbeck, Robin Hinsch, Jana Ritchie, Tina Schmidt, Kerry Steen, Conrad Veit and Konstantin Weber. With their works, they open our eyes to neurological diseases, exploitation mechanisms and production conditions behind fossil fuels, displacement or even hybrid life forms. The exhibition can be seen at PHOXXI, which is serving as a bridge during the renovation work at the Haus der Fotografie.Art.Salon

Hamburg, Deichtorhallen: opening of the temporary substitute of the House of Photography

A container is not a rare sight in the port city of Hamburg - in high-caliber design in the middle of the parking lot of an art museum, however, it is. The PHOXXI, an acronym made up of the word photography and the Roman numeral 21, which in turn is representative of the 21st century, is located exactly there: in the parking lot of the Deichtorhallen, where it was inaugurated on September 29, 2021.
