Abstraction of a Life

Georg Brandner has been working as a freelance artist for 50 years, and his drive to create remains undiminished: Since his early days in the Graz art scene, the artist has always faced the ups and downs of his career with determination. For him, it is like a pilgrimage; each new day begins with the energy of the very first day. The well-traveled artist, who has explored every continent except Antarctica, channels his experiences and adventures into multi-layered abstract works. Through his art, Brandner transcends man-made cultural boundaries and seeks to foster unity. The traces of the world, etched into Brandner’s memory, coalesce in his studio in Niklasdorf into a reflection on fundamental questions of human existence. A wide variety of techniques and materials merge to form his unique style. For example, the artist elaborately coats his paintings with epoxy resin, giving them an extraordinary radiance.

With several solo exhibitions in 2026, Brandner will celebrate not only his 50th anniversary as an artist but also his 70th birthday. Just a few days ago, an exhibition at the KulturQuartier Leoben came to a close, and now the next one is already opening: On June 30 at 6:30 p.m., the opening reception for Georg Brandner – 70 Years of Art will take place at the Galerie Atelier Berndt in Wolfsberg. The artist will be present at the opening.

Georg Brandner has presented his work at over 300 national and international exhibitions to date, and his pieces are held in private and public collections in numerous countries. He has also completed a series of commissioned works that have contributed to his international reputation. In addition to his artistic practice, Brandner works as a lecturer and curator.
