On 18 March, VITRINE Gallery in Basel opens The Grass at our Feet - a group exhibition that explores myths, folk tales and folk methods. They come from a variety of cultures and relate to the artists' heritage and identity. Young emerging artists of different nationalities are participating in the exhibition: Ukrainian-Canadian artist Ayla Dmyterko, Danish artist Cecilia Fiona and Ecuadorian artist Leandro Pesantes B.

Ayla Dmyterko is a third-generation Ukrainian who grew up in the large diaspora community in Saskatchewan, Canada. She uses painting, sculpture, textiles and film to explore her heritage and that of her community. Her paintings shown in The Grass at our Feet resemble religious works and overlap with dream-like features. Even the framing of the paintings draws on folk customs. Cecilia Fiona's paintings are made with rabbit skin glue, for which she gained national attention. They offer a glimpse into another world inhabited by creatures, half human, half animal. VITRINE Gallery presents two of her new double-sided stencil paintings. Leandro Pesantes B. focuses on traditional Ecuadorian rituals and customs. His paintings reveal his interests in myths, legends and narratives from culture and religion. The Grass at our Feet can be seen until 29 May.Art.Salon
