Memories are, on the one hand, fixed, as they are tied to past events; on the other hand, they are in motion, as they are fragmentary and the process of remembering is subject to constant change. In the exhibition memory lines, artist Lumturije Schmidhuber presents her explorations of the boundless world of memories: Visual spaces dominated by overlapping lines evoke architectures and landscapes that could transform at any moment and form new arrangements. These »constructions of memory«, as Schmidhuber calls them, symbolize remembering as a transition into a fluid world grounded in fleeting traces, a world in which one can lose oneself. These images enter into dialogue with Schmidhuber’s works depicting women, which at first glance appear to be portraits but in reality represent past times and life experiences. Their steadfast presence conveys history on a personal level: it is life lived and felt, not a sterile sequence of events. The exhibition memory lines will be on view from April 2 to 7 at the Geranienhaus in Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, whose historic atmosphere offers intriguing contrasts to the artist’s paintings.

Lumturije Schmidhuber’s work revolves around the formation and transformation of cultural identity and the traces of history that live on in people as experience and memory and are passed down to subsequent generations. Her perspective is also influenced by biographical elements and intercultural experiences: after living in Berlin, Zurich, and Munich, she now lives and works in Rosenheim near Munich. The artist, who is participating in the Art.Salon artist program, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolbermoor.Art.Salon
