Bundeskunsthalle shows new acquisitions

From May 7 to October 3, the Bundeskunsthalle will be showing a selection of approximately 170 works that were purchased by an expert honorary commission for the collection of the German Federal Republic. The exhibition Identity not Proven illustrates how historical and current developments, collective perspectives or the questioning of images are reflected in contemporary art.

The Bundeskunsthalle regularly exhibits works from the collection of the Federal Republic of Germany. From May 7 to October 3, 2022, it will present the exhibition Identity not Proven. It includes a selection of approximately 170 works purchased by an honorary expert commission over a period of five years (2017-2021) for the Federal Collection. This selection will be supplemented by purchases made by an expanded commission with funds from NEUSTART KULTUR, the federal government's economic stimulus program for the cultural and media sectors. The curatorial team hopes that the mix of the two acquisitions will primarily provide a representative cross-section of contemporary art.

The title of the exhibition is a quotation from a work and refers to one goal of the selection of works: Pointing out diversity, tolerance and social as well as personal reflection. The dialogical concept is based on current political and social references, postcolonial discourses, construction and shaping of history, and urbanity. The exhibition illustrates how historical and current developments, collective perspectives or the questioning of images are reflected in contemporary art. The selection of works shows the diversity of media and techniques in current artistic practice. It ranges from large-scale installations to drawings, paintings, and sculptures to photographs and video works.Art.Salon
