Berlin: Elitza Nanova presents »Water Abstractions«

Dancing Water

Picturesque water photographs: The dynamism and versatility of water has long fascinated photographer Elitza Nanova. At the PRIVATE VIEW of the Kunst-Zeit-Raum artists' agency in Berlin-Prenzlauerberg, she will be presenting her latest works in a solo exhibition entitled Water Abstractions, starting on October 10.

Viewing the world in water: In reflections on water surfaces, our environment is transformed into abstract, sometimes wild structures. It is like looking through a mysterious lens into another world, which photographer Elitza Nanova explores in her work: »Water has fascinated me with its changeability and liveliness for many years. I have photographed it in all its states of aggregation—as boiling water, rain, snow, ice, and steam. I originally come from dance photography, but in water I have found an equivalent in nature for the moving, transitory, and fleeting.« From October 10 to November 7, she will present her current work in the exhibition Water Abstractions at PRIVATE VIEW at Kunst-Zeit-Raum in Berlin. Her series Abstract Water Images (2025) deals with moving water and the fleeting distortions of our surroundings visible in it. The works are based on the series Berlin as Water Reflection (2022-2025), which depicts Berlin's architecture as reflections in the Spree River, but remains figurative.

Elitza Nanova is a Berlin-based photo artist and graphic designer. Her artistic focus is on movement and the question of how its effect can be represented in a static medium such as photography. The artist's photographic work also serves as the basis for digital collages: here she combines dance photography and images of structures to create novel realities that give pictorial expression to the pursuit of freedom.

The group exhibition In Transition – from Performance to Exhibition by the Verein Berliner Künstler is on view in Berlin until October 26, featuring one of Nanova's dance photographs. The artist's dance photographs, which are also influenced by her own dance experiences, have been shown in six exhibitions and published in two photo books.
