Products developed purely for their practicality become part of unique sculptures: Using wire, cable ties, plastic bottles, coffee pads, among other things, artist Caroline Laengerer develops delicate-looking objects reminiscent of plants or coral. Laengerer sheds new light on products that are made of durable artificial materials but are considered worthless after a single use, thus raising questions about the relationship between humans and nature and about transience. In various series of works, the artist focuses on different aspects: In magic tree, for example, she combines galvanized wire with glazed porcelain on the theme of growth; in power within, she uses objects made of wire and cable ties, reminiscent of cocoons or germs, to explore the indescribable vitality and energy that lies dormant in these tiny existences. The Städtische Galerie im Alten Spital in Bad Wimpfen is presenting the exhibition grow on with numerous works by the artist from May 3rd. Art historian Beatrix Altmann-Schmitt will give introductory remarks at the opening, after which the exhibition will run until June 15.
Caroline Laengerer studied painting at Karl Rödel's art school in Mannheim and sculpture at the Europa-Akademie in Isny. Since then, the Heidelberg-based artist has presented her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions and has won the Walldorf Art Prize, among others. In addition to her objects, she also creates paintings with oil paints and sand and installations. »I like to experiment with different materials and analyze the values, contradictions and ideas associated with them in our society. My concepts arise from impressions and contexts from my environment, which inspire me to realize them artistically. [...] I love to explore the limits of what is possible«, she explains in her artist statement.
Opening hours of the Städtische Galerie: Mon-Sun 10am-12pm and 2pm-5pm, admission free
