A detail of nature inspires a new world: Jacqueline Corman’s (JacqC) works navigate the tension between perception and imagination, between observation of nature and inner imagery. They open up spaces in which perception slows down and transforms into a contemplative experience. Her works are based on concrete observations of nature, yet the literal depiction of reality is never the goal. This gives rise to compositions that straddle the line between figuration and abstraction, characterized by intense color contrasts and the use of light and shadow as atmospheric and structural elements. This interplay of opposing forces is what makes her work so distinctive.

JacqC applies her oil paints directly from the tube using painting spatulas. This lends her works an intense and powerful aura. The creative process behind her artworks is shaped by emotion and intuition. The compositions follow an inner logic that cannot be deciphered, but can only be experienced through an emotional connection. Her paintings appear both powerful and harmonious—intense yet restrained, never overwhelming. Reality is never far away, yet a hint of mystery remains. This quality invites the viewer to linger and draws the eye back to the painting again and again.

The Belgian artist is exhibiting about 10 of her paintings in the PuurKunst exhibition at the Garemijnzaal in the City Halls beneath the famous Belfry on Bruges’ central market square. A total of 12 artists are participating in the show, which runs from July 17 to 21; the media presented include painting, photography, glass art, ceramics, and tapestries.Art.Salon
