Künstlerhaus Vienna: »Muta Natur«

Macabre works – the deconstruction of the concept of nature

»The existing concept of nature is partly responsible for legitimising our exploitation and destruction of it.« This is the view of the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. For the exhibition Muta Natur, the museum therefore invited artists to deconstruct the concept.

Critical, disturbing, romantic, topical - this is how the Künstlerhaus in Vienna describes the potential of our concept of nature. This is precisely what is to be deconstructed in the exhibition Muta Natur from 7 April. To this end, the exhibition house has invited artistic positions that critically question the way humans deal with nature. The result is indeed critical and disturbing work: Sebastian Gärtner tries to hatch a chick on his own body, while Catharina Bond shows how human and animal flesh merge: she stages two human bodies lying on top of each other, with a block of meat loaf on top.

All the works on show are also in dialogue with each other: for example, Niki Passath's tattoo machine meets Roland Maurmair's tree tattoo machine in the exhibition.

The artists represented include Bernadette Anzengruber, Catharina Bond, Vito Baumüller, Regula Dettwiler, Sebastian Gärtner, Gelitin, Eva Grün, Maria Grün, Daniel Hafner, Alexandra Kontriner, Roland Maurmair, Niki Passath, Lea Titz, Manfred Unger, Anna Werzowa, Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau.

Those who want to see the spectacular exhibition should hurry, because it runs for about four weeks and ends on 1 May.Art.Salon
