An exhibition exploring the interplay of technical and organic characteristics: »QuasiMonochrome«, oil pastel-painted wooden panels by Brigitte Bi Pfister, meet bronze sculptures by Klemens Pasoldt, which examine the unity of opposites. The works of the two artists, who met while pursuing further studies in St. Gallen, are on view at the Galerie für Gegenwartskunst Schaffhausen. Pasoldt, whose preferred medium is wood, presents here primarily his bronze sculptures, to which he has been dedicating himself for some years.

The sculptures explore spatial interpenetrations and the relationship between fragility and stability. In his art, Klemens Pasoldt examines the ambivalence between extremes—the gray area that defines human life but for which, unlike with extreme forms, suitable words are rarely found: »Antipodes define our lives; no muscle function without flexors and extensors […], no recognition of the ‘I’ without the ‘you.’ My sculptures emerge from the tension between sending and receiving […]«, explains Pasoldt, who is participating in the Art.Salon artist program, outlining his approach. The exhibition opens on June 19 at 5 p.m. and runs through July 18. On Friday, July 3, at 6 p.m., a reading performance by writer and actor Hans Gysi will take place as part of the exhibition. In sensitive poems, he reflects on the exhibited artworks, among other things.

Klemens Pasoldt, who hails from Winterthur and maintains a satellite studio in Schaffhausen, is exhibiting not only his latest bronze sculptures but also two large-scale works in wood. One of them, measuring 2.8 meters in height, is on view in the gallery’s courtyard. Pasoldt, who originally studied geology, also creates steel and plaster sculptures as well as prints.
