Suki Chan is an internationally successful artist, her works are in the collection of the Museum of London and the David Roberts Art Foundation as well as the Ingram Collection, among others.  Now, the Bluecoat Gallery is dedicating an exhibition to her: Suki Chan: CONSCIOUS is on show in Liverpool from 12 March to 12 June. Chan is interested in the perception and consciousness of people, not only in scientific research but also in the personal experiences of individuals. Under the project title CONSCIOUS, the artist, who was born in 1977, develops new perspectives on human realities, for example by working with dementia patients.

In addition to photographs, sculptures and VR works, the focus is on three films: Memory (2019) deals with the relationship between geological time and the lifespan of a human being. Aerial shots of landscapes meet audio tracks of pilots. For Hallucinations (2020), Chan worked with two women suffering from dementia who report on how they deal with the disease. The altered perception influences identity and leads to hallucinations. The resulting uncertainty and disorientation can be imagined as fog – this leads to the title of the third film: Fog In My Head (2021). This was funded by Film London and combines scenes from nature, living spaces and abstract scientific recordings of synapses in the brain, for example, to create a visually powerful film. In addition to the sound, which the artist also works with intensively, shots of fog join the moving images together.Art.Salon
