Exploring the diversity of nature in art: In her series Momentum Baum, artist Gabriele Weide focuses on a rarely perceived aspect of nature. In relief-like paintings, she creates portraits of trees, some of which are over 200 years old. The powerful yet vulnerable-looking trees, which have defied adversity for several human lifetimes, become symbols of nature's resilience with their unique gnarled forms. The artist, who discovered the old trees in Düsseldorf's parks, is fascinated by their sculptural expression and approached the green life forms using various artistic techniques. Weide presents a selection of her works in the solo exhibition Silent Witnesses, Strong Forms. The vernissage will take place on October 31 at 7 p.m. at HUNDERTNEUN in Düsseldorf, followed by the exhibition, which runs until November 15.

On November 11 at 7 p.m., Gabriele Weide will read from her book Momentum Baum, which was created in connection with the series of works. The reading will be accompanied by a wine tasting.

Gabriele Weide's artistic work is strongly influenced by current environmental events and political changes. Momentum Baum, for example, developed under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the artist saw her surroundings from a different perspective and rediscovered the parks of her hometown Düsseldorf. Weide studied graphic design at the Folkwang School, now the Folkwang University of the Arts Duisburg/Essen, and works in the fields of painting, mixed media, drawing, and photography. The main themes of her artistic work are urban vegetation and water as the basis of life.
