For each of his exhibitions, performances, and lectures, French artist Saâdane Afif (*1970) develops his own poster, which is produced as a small-run silkscreen print. In doing so, he adds another layer to his interdisciplinary work, which is characterized by subtle humor and often draws on works or events from art history, music, and poetry. The Museum Folkwang in Essen is presenting a selection of 80 posters together with a re-staging of Afif's first exhibition in Germany in 2004. Saâdane Afif. Affiches / Posters runs from March 13 to October 4. The exhibits are presented in two parts, with the posters being exchanged in June.

Afif studied in Bourges and Nantes and has exhibited in numerous museums, including the Museum Folkwang in Essen, the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, the Kunsthalle Wien, and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. He was also represented at Documenta 12 (2007), the Berlin Biennale (2014), and the Venice Biennale (2015). In 2009, he received the Marcel Duchamp Prize shortly after beginning work on The Fountain Archives. Afif was also artistic director of the Bergen Assembly, which takes place every three years, in 2022.Art.Salon
