The exhibition Anna Boghiguian – The Sunken Boat uses immersive installations to address the climate crisis, rising sea levels, and the global history of seafaring. The title refers to Boghiguian's current work The Sunken Boat: A Glimpse into Past Histories (2025). At the center of the installation is a papier-mâché figure of a diver surrounded by glass shells and paper fish representing the rich but threatened underwater life. The installation is complemented by sound recordings of the sea from various locations around the world and a mural painted by the artist directly onto the wall of the ARoS museum. Boghiguian blends historical and personal elements with contemporary issues, opening up a new perspective on difficulties familiar to us all, but whose significance has been lost in endless repetitive reporting. The exhibition Anna Boghiguian – The Sunken Boat will be on view at the ARoS art museum in Aarhus from November 22, 2025, to April 19.

Another central work in the exhibition is The Chess Game (2022), an eight-by-eight-meter installation in which 24 historical figures such as Marie Antoinette, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Sigmund Freud engage in a symbolic chess game for power and influence as hand-painted figures. Anna Boghiguian is a widely traveled artist who has lived in numerous cities around the world and created a highly political body of work. Her many awards include the Golden Lion for the Armenian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2015) and the Wolfgang Hahn Prize Cologne (2024). She was also nominated for the Artes Mundi in 2019.

The exhibition mentioned above was created in collaboration with Turner Contemporary in Margate, where it was on display from June to October 2025.Art.Salon
