Outlook for the year 2022

Triennale in Norway: 4th edition of »Bergen Assembly«

Since 2013, the Bergen Assembly triennial has been held in Norway, presenting contemporary art in public events. Each edition is organized by a different convener free from all constraints, this year by the artist Saâdane Afif. The opening is scheduled for 08 September 2022.

Although the Norwegian city of Bergen is not exactly known for its art, it has been hosting a major event for almost ten years: the Bergen Assembly, a triennial organized by an ever-changing convener(-duo). Free of any constraints, they determine the form of their Assembly edition, including its duration, which has so far varied between two and ten months. The boundaries between art and science can become blurred, while the Bergen Assembly, according to its name, also opens up discourses on political or emancipatory action.

For 2022, the interdisciplinary artist Saâdane Afif has been appointed as convener. Afif exhibited at documenta 12 (2007) and won the Prix Marcel Duchamp in 2009. The conveners are supported by specially appointed curators. This year it is Yasmine d'O., who has already collaborated regularly with Afif since 2014.

Exactly how the Bergen Assembly will be designed is still a secret. The only thing that is certain is that it will take place from September 8 to November 6, 2022 - a small but fine art event that is well worth putting on your diary.Art.Salon
