Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Port-Marly Avant L’Inondation by Alfred Sisley was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 600,000.00 – 800,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 564,500.00 (€ 462,932.59). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Alfred Sisley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Effet De Neige À Louveciennes in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,358,750.00 (€ 8,623,728.62).
