A top price for Chuck Close - as previously expected
In May 2004 Christies in New York held the auction Post-War and Contemporary Art (Evening Sale), which included the work Gwynne by Chuck Close. The price achieved of USD 2,807,500.00 (€ 2,298,027.34) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,500,000.00 – 3,500,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Gwynne is the most expensive artwork by Chuck Close that we have observed at auctions so far.

Im Mai 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art (Evening Sale) durch, in der auch die Arbeit Gwynne von Chuck Close zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 2.807.500,00 (€ 2.298.027,34) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 2.500.000,00 – 3.500.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist Gwynne das teuerste Kunstwerk von Chuck Close, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
