Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Filippo de Pisis achieved an unexpectedly high price at Il Ponte in May last year. In the Arte moderna e contemporanea auction, the work Natura morta marina con tartarughe (Il cappello di Napoleone) sold for EUR 55,000.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 25,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Filippo de Pisis - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ponte sulla Senna, which sold at auction in May 2001 for ITL 196,000,000.00 (€ 185,452.40).
