Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Optics Notations I and II by Herbert Bayer was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,040.00 (€ 4,121.01). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert Bayer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mirage In The Mountains in July 2020 with an auction result of GBP 125,000.00 (€ 139,427.98).
