HIROSHI SUGIMOTO (B. 1948) South Pacific Ocean, Waihau, 1990 gelatin silver print, mounted on card signed in pencil (mount, recto); blindstamped title, date and '7/25' and '327' (margin); credited, titled, dated and numbered on affixed gallery label (frame backing board) image: 16 1 ⁄ 2 x 21 1 ⁄ 4 in. (41.9 x 53.9 cm.) sheet: 18 1 ⁄ 2 x 23 5 ⁄ 8 in. (46.9 x 60 cm.) mount: 19 5 ⁄ 8 x 25 in. (49.8 x 63.5 cm. This work is number seven from an edition of twenty-five.
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work South Pacific Ocean, Waihau, 1990 by Hiroshi Sugimoto was sold in the Photographs auction at Christies in New York in October this year. The price achieved of USD 25,200.00 (€ 23,845.57) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hiroshi Sugimoto achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Black Sea, Ozuluce; Yellow Sea, Cheju; Red Sea, Safaga in May 2007 with an auction result of USD 1,888,000.00 (€ 1,403,404.45).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit South Pacific Ocean, Waihau, 1990 von Hiroshi Sugimoto wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion Photographs bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 25.200,00 (€ 23.845,57) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Hiroshi Sugimoto erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Black Sea, Ozuluce; Yellow Sea, Cheju; Red Sea, Safaga im Mai 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.888.000,00 (€ 1.403.404,45).
