In October 2000 a collector was able to acquire the work Dryopteris filix, Wurmfarn (Common male fern) by Karl Blossfeldt for USD 32,900.00 (€ 38,769.74). This price was achieved in the auction PHOTOGRAPHIC MASTERWORKS 2 at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 35,000.00 – 45,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Karl Blossfeldt - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Equisetum hyemale. Winterschachtelhalm 12-fache Vergrösserung, which sold at auction in April 2000 for USD 82,250.00 (€ 90,494.00).
