MAN RAY (1890–1976) Aurélien, c. 1966 thirteen gelatin silver prints, tipped to mounts one signed and dated in ink (recto); five stamped 'MAN RAY / PARIS' in ink (verso and mount, verso); one signed titled and annotated in pencil (mount verso and adjoining backing); others variously annotated in pencil (verso); each credited, titled, and dated on affixed gallery labels (mat, backing) each image approximately: 11 1 ⁄ 4 x 8 5 ⁄ 8 in. (28.5 x 21.9 cm.) each mount approximately: 13 x 9 7 ⁄ 8 in. (33 x 25 cm.)

This artwork by Man Ray achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October this year. In the A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection auction, the work Aurélien, c. 1966 sold for USD 56,700.00 (€ 53,652.54) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Man Ray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Violon d'Ingres, 1924 in May last year with an auction result of USD 12,412,500.00 (€ 11,566,955.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Man Ray erzielte im Oktober diesen Jahres bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection wurde die Arbeit Aurélien, c. 1966 für USD 56.700,00 (€ 53.652,54) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 20.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Man Ray erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le Violon d'Ingres, 1924 im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 12.412.500,00 (€ 11.566.955,55).
