The work L'énigme (after the painting La conquête du Philosophe, 1914, by Giorgio de Chirico) by Max Ernst was sold in the The Art of the Surreal auction at Christies in London in February 2017. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 62,500.00 (€ 73,148.19), 25% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Max Ernst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le roi jouant avec la reine in November last year with an auction result of USD 24,435,000.00 (€ 23,670,444.64).

Die Arbeit L'énigme (after the painting La conquête du Philosophe, 1914, by Giorgio de Chirico) von Max Ernst wurde im Februar 2017 in der Auktion The Art of the Surreal bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 62.500,00 (€ 73.148,19) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Max Ernst erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le roi jouant avec la reine im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 24.435.000,00 (€ 23.670.444,64).
