Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Park Sookeun achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2004. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Seated woman and jar sold for USD 1,239,500.00 (€ 1,008,379.43) - well above the upper estimate of USD 500,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Park Sookeun; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Tree and three figures, 1962 sold at auction in September 2012 with the realized price of USD 1,986,500.00 (€ 1,545,192.91).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Park Sookeun erzielte im März 2004 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art wurde die Arbeit Seated woman and jar für USD 1.239.500,00 (€ 1.008.379,43) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 500.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Park Sookeun; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Tree and three figures, 1962 im September 2012 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 1.986.500,00 (€ 1.545.192,91).
