Further works from this series were featured in a 2014 exhibition at Galerie Martine Gossieaux, Paris entitled ‘Nos Compagnons’. Of the suite of drawings, Quentin wrote: ‘I had recently started some exploratory drawings of young women accompanied by strange creatures […] The interest for me lies in drawing the movements and gestures of the young women and their companions and suggesting the varied relationships. One of the attractions of drawing is that it lends itself easily to metaphor

Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Women & Strange Creatures #113 by Quentin Blake was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,648.09). Admittedly, works by Quentin Blake have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Grand High Witch in July 2018 with an auction result of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 39,242.70).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Women & Strange Creatures #113 von Quentin Blake im Dezember 2019 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 1.800,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 5.625,00 (€ 6.648,09) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Quentin Blake auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Grand High Witch im Juli 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 35.000,00 (€ 39.242,70).
