ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE (1946–1989) Calla Lily, 1988 gelatin silver print, flush-mounted on board credited, signed by Michael Ward Stout, Executor, and dated in ink in Estate copyright credit stamp, titled, dated and numbered '8/10' in ink (flush mount, verso) image: 19 1 ⁄ 4 x 19 1 ⁄ 8 in. (48.8 x 48.5 cm.) sheet/flush mount: 23 3 ⁄ 4 x 20 in. (60.3 x 50.8 cm.) This work is number eight from an edition of ten.
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Calla Lily, 1988 by Robert Mapplethorpe was sold in the Photographs auction at Christies in New York in October this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 20,160.00 (€ 19,076.46) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Mapplethorpe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait in October 2017 with an auction result of GBP 548,750.00 (€ 625,682.41).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Calla Lily, 1988 von Robert Mapplethorpe wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion Photographs bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 20.160,00 (€ 19.076,46) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Robert Mapplethorpe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Self-Portrait im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 548.750,00 (€ 625.682,41).
