Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The voyage of life, Youth 26 x 36in by Thomas Cole was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 537.60 (€ 492.85). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Cole achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Catskill Mountain House in December 2003 with an auction result of USD 1,463,500.00 (€ 1,161,784.55).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The voyage of life, Youth 26 x 36in von Thomas Cole im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.500,00 – 2.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 537,60 (€ 492,85) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Cole erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Catskill Mountain House im Dezember 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.463.500,00 (€ 1.161.784,55).
