In May last year Christies in New York held the auction The Surrealist World of Rosalind Gersten Jacobs & Melvin Jacobs Online Sale, which included the work Drypoint - Ocean Surface by Vija Celmins. The »bidding war« ended at USD 23,940.00 (€ 22,309.20), 33% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Vija Celmins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (Ocean) in June 2021 with an auction result of USD 7,748,000.00 (€ 6,539,500.34).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 33 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion The Surrealist World of Rosalind Gersten Jacobs & Melvin Jacobs Online Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Drypoint - Ocean Surface von Vija Celmins zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 23.940,00 (€ 22.309,20) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Vija Celmins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled (Ocean) im Juni 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.748.000,00 (€ 6.539.500,34).
