From the middle of the 20th century, a new understanding of children slowly developed in society. In this context, artists also devoted themselves to the young audience and created multi-layered works that were aimed at children and actively involved them. Children were transformed from spectators into creators and learned about independence and responsibility. Art for children covers a wide range of topics, from the environment and politics to technology, business and social behavior. On July 18, the remarkable exhibition For Children. Art Stories since 1968, which focuses on an unjustly overlooked field of art, opens at the Haus der Kunst in Munich. The show runs until February 01, 2026.

The exhibition spans several indoor and outdoor spaces and also presents several works created especially for this show, such as an interactive installation by Ei Arakawa and a skateboardable sculpture by Koo Jeong A. Agus Nur Amal PMTOH is designing an artwork made of toys that could be handed in at Haus der Kunst as part of a collection campaign from March to the beginning of June. Other artists in the exhibition are Tarek Atoui, Yto Barrada, Antoine Catala, Neha Choksi, Olafur Eliasson, Harun Farocki, Emily Floyd, Jan Peter Hammer, KEKS, Eva Koťátková, Basim Magdy, Ana Mendieta, Meredith Monk, Bruce Nauman, Ernesto Neto, Rivane Neuenschwander and Lygia Pape.

With this exhibition, Haus der Kunst is continuing its future-oriented approach, questioning established narratives and exploring new forms of exhibition making – from presentation to interpretation. For Children. Art Stories since 1968 was curated by Andrea Lissoni, Emma Enderby, Lydia Korndörfer and Xue Tan.Art.Salon
