Female artists who go their own way, overcome obstacles and assert themselves against existing boundaries: In the recently opened exhibition Defying Boundaries: Female Vision, the Karin Weber Gallery presents selected positions with a clear, personal line. Female artists from China, Germany, Myanmar and Wales show in different ways how they are breaking new ground. The exhibition with works by Tina Buchholtz, June Ho, Khin Thethtar Latt, Cassandra Lau Po Yan, Soe Yu Nwe, Thynn Lel Nwe and Annette Marie Townsend can be seen in Hong Kong until March 8.

Three paintings by Tina Buchholtz, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program, are on display: Pole Position, English Garden and Happy Harbour illustrate different aspects of her work. In her abstract works, the painter uses natural motifs to explore the contrast between movement and stillness. Using a palette knife, Buchholtz captures an untamed force on the canvas, which, as in Pole Position, turns out to be a dynamic interplay of delicate lines. In English Garden, she combines the lines with a labor-intensive sanding technique to create a natural atmosphere. Happy Harbour is characterized by reflections in the water: the form dominates the color here, the wildness of nature is captured in the surface of the water as if in a vessel.

For more than 30 years, Buchholtz has mainly worked with a palette knife, applying the paint in many layers to give her paintings a textured surface. She has had several solo and group exhibitions at the Karin Weber Gallery. Her works can be found in private and public collections in China, Japan, the USA, the United Kingdom, the UAE and Switzerland, among others.Art.Salon
