Kunstpalast Düsseldorf: first exhibition about electro music

»Electro. From Kraftwerk to Techno« draws connection between electronic music and artistic production

What Düsseldorf is up to with the innovation of electronic music is certainly no secret to followers of the electro subculture. The birthplace of the former duo Kraftwerk is pleased to present an absolute novelty on December 9: For the first time, the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf is showing a music-based exhibition with a focus on electro.

Not only did Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider, founding members of the group Kraftwerk as well as co-founders of the Düsseldorfer Schule, have a significant influence on the development of the electro music genre as well as the entire musical landscape of the 1970s and 80s: the work show From Kraftwerk to Techno at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf is the result of a close collaboration with Kraftwerk veteran Hüttner. The Musée de la Musique - Philharmonie de Paris was also involved in the development of the creative exhibition. With Electro. From Kraftwerk to Techno, the Kunstpalast is »not creating an exhibition about music, but rather a musical exhibition that aims to show the connections between electronic music and artistic production such as graphic design, digital art, photography, performance and video,« as curator Jean-Yves Leloup explains. The multimedia event will be on view from December 9.

500 exhibits, some of them interactive, will guide visitors through the entire history of the development of electro music. Together, they provide a broad spectrum of everything that has helped shape and develop the electronic music scene: from the Croix Sonore, a touch-free musical instrument developed in Paris in 1926, to Karlheinz Stockhausen's experiments from the 1960s in the Cologne Studio for Electronic Music, to the use of artificial intelligence in current music production. Various currents such as Detroit Techno, Chicago House or the hip-hop of the 1980s find just as much a place in the exhibition as the rave culture of the 1990s. In addition, special attention is paid to the complete works of the group Kraftwerk - this presentation in particular is supported by the Kunststiftung NRW and the Stadtwerke Düsseldorf. Who wants to see Electro. From Kraftwerk to Techno in the Rhineland capital is welcome until May 15, 2022.Art.Salon
