On October 1, a solo show of Maria Lassnig's works from the Klewan Collection opens at the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne. The Austrian artist, who died in 2014, bequeathed an œuvre spanning more than 60 years, which gallery owner and collector Helmut Klewan appreciated early on. His personal relationship with Lassnig is evident in the works on display, which give visitors insights into his extensive collection of the artist. This can be viewed at the Museum am Neumarkt in Cologne until January 9 2022.

Lassnig's work focuses on the human body, especially the female one, and stages it in a completely new way. This subject, now considered characteristic of the artist, she intensified from the late 1940s. Her intention was to let inner, physical sensations and the outer appearance flow into each other. In this way she visualizes her own emotional life and makes emotions such as pain or grief tangible for the viewer. It is precisely this extraordinary unfolding of the body that guides visitors through the exhibits of the Klewan Collection for three months.Art.Salon
