The U.S. photo artist LaToya Ruby Frazier (*1982) is currently counted as one of the most important people on the photographic scene in North America. Her impressive black-and-white photographs reveal themes that are always political-social critical and from the point of view of the underprivileged working class of the USA. Of central importance are social injustices, racism, labor migration, environmental pollution, or the economic decline of former industrial cities. Frazier's compositions are not staged from an arrogant position, but with empathy: she embeds their content in biographical contexts, letting friends and relatives become the subject of her works.

As part of the exhibition series True Pictures? Contemporary Photography from Canada and the USA the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg will be the first German museum to focus on the young artist from October 30, 2021. Visitors can view around 150 photographs and a selection of videos until April 10. True Pictures? LaToya Ruby Frazier is part of the program accompanying the main exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hannover and the third event in the series at the Kunstmuseum Braunschweig. During the period, the three exhibition venues will host a joint supporting program of lectures as well as discussions with the curators and artists.Art.Salon
