KayOne and Bo130 were both born in the early 1970s and are now considered pioneers of Italian street art. They first came into contact with graffiti as teenagers through American TV series and eventually began trying their hand at this art form themselves. From the hesitant beginnings, a large scene developed since the early 1990s, which is now represented throughout Italy and has even spawned city-specific styles. Walls of buildings and subway tunnels are often adorned with murals several meters in size, which move between commenting irony and pure decoration, but are much more than defacing lettering.

Born in the street is a documentary by RS Productions, a company based in Milan since 2019, whose mission is to capture the cultural life of Italy in all its facets. This film is the second of now more than ten documentaries of the production company. Born in the street is not only about the development of the graffiti scene, but also about its influence on the redevelopment of public spaces and urban peripheries. The attention that the murals attracted as a result helped to recognize their status as works of art and motivated municipal governments to spruce up the graffiti's environments. Thus, street art contributed to a cultural revitalization of Italian cities.Art.Salon
