The 21st century is representative of a fast-paced world: constant flexibility, accessibility and self-optimisation determine everyday life - time is money. At the latest since the pandemic, the world seems to be slowing down a bit. Contemporary artists are also dealing with the expansion and slowness of time through tiring repetition to the point of standstill: Of Running Out of Time - Concepts of Time in Contemporary Art is the title of the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Reutlingen, which is devoted to various artistic approaches to the subject from 26 February to 28 August.

While some works give expression to temporality with the help of their process of creation, other artists deal with physical phenomena, such as kinetics. Photography, a medium that is fundamentally linked to the capturing of moments, is also tested for its potential to make the past present again: Can the analogue present take place parallel to the digital past? Curator Holger Kube Ventura complements these approaches with timeless social questions about the relationship between youth and age and the fear of death.

What all eleven artistic positions have in common is that they do not examine the discrepancy between subjectively perceived and normative time - a minute can fly by or feel eternally long. It is philosophical questions that underlie the exhibition: What approach does each individual take to time and how does it influence life?Art.Salon
