»Strangers we are ourselves«
It is probably not new that human perception can be influenced depending on the staging of something. The exhibition Strangers we are ourselves: Portraits from Paula Modersohn-Becker to Zanele Muholi by the Von-der-Heydt-Museum in Wuppertal goes one step further, however, and claims that self-perception also depends on it. It can be seen starting August 21.

David Hockney: The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020
Just recently, on July 9, David Hockney celebrated a round birthday: he turned 85. Two years ago, he immediately took advantage of the pandemic to travel to France and capture the awakening of spring. The resulting, typically Hockney, garishly colorful snapshots will be on display at the Art Institute in Chicago beginning August 20.
100 Years of the Folkwang: How Expressionism Shaped a Museum
Beginning August 20, the Museum Folkwang in Essen will focus on the Expressionists from its own collection. On display are 250 works by central figures such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Wassily Kandinsky. The museum has a long tradition with Expressionism, and so it is retelling its own history of the art movement with Expressionists at the Folkwang - the occasion being the centenary of the exhibition house.
Colour will be our guest
From August 25, everything in our exhibition rooms in Berlin will revolve around the theme of color, and we are extremely pleased that the artists Heikedine Günther, Paola Neumann, Sybille Pattscheck, Susanne Stähli, and Kerstin Vegelahn have accepted our invitation to exhibit with us, allowing us to present their works together with those of Tomislav Topic and Luise von Rohden from artnow Gallery's permanent program.

This exhibition is deliberately not about such monumental works of modernism as Pablo Picasso's 27m² painting Guernica (1937) or Claes Oldenburg's metre-high sculptures. With Modernism in Miniature, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California, dedicates itself to important small-format works from Expressionism to Pop Art. The show opens on 12 August.

Major Retrospective for Minimalist Lee Ufan
Lee Ufan made a name for himself with minimalist sculptures and paintings. To this day, the whole world presents his works: To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the National Art Center in Tokyo, the museum is opening a major retrospective of the South Korean artist Ufan on 10 August.
